While teaching, Phil became a commercial fisherman and a skilled outdoorsman. Eventually, after becoming dissatisfied with “duck calls” as they were, he started to work on a device that could mimic the noises of a duck to exact detail.

His ingenuity and DIY attitude are the impetus for what has now become the Duck Commander Company, founded in 1973. Today, his company is worth several million dollars and is run by his son, Willie Robertson.

Thanks to the controversial yet entertaining Duck Dynasty reality show on A&E, the company grew exponentially and remains exceedingly popular.
