10 Oldest Porn in the the World

With the rise of the internet over the past few decades, porn has become much less taboo. People are no longer ashamed to admit that they watch porn and it’s become so normalized that it’s many people think it’s weird when someone says they have never seen porn before.

Although it might be seen as a positive that porn is no longer stigmatized, several people believe that porn addiction is on the rise. The most recent statistics said that one of the most biggest porn streaming sites in the world, Pornhub received 2.5 billion visits in 2017.

With the abundant availability of porn, many young people can’t even imagine a time when porn had to be shown in underground theaters. The first pornographic films emerged in the 19th century and were met with charges of public obscenity. Some of these early films have survived and are included on this list.

However, the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex Gender and Reproduction is believed to own a majority of only existing copies of the earliest pornographic films, but they plan on keeping them locked up and away from prying eyes.

However several other scholars argue that there is no historical evidence for the claim and actors may have actually had higher social status.

Like a few other early hardcore pornos, A Free Ride includes voyeuristic elements. The film features a man who offers two young women a ride. When they stop for a break, one of the women goes off with the man to have sex and the second woman joins them later. No one alive today would considered The Kiss to be a “pornographic” film, but at the time of its release it was considered shocking and obscene. As the the name implies, the movie depicted the very first kiss on film. It was a re-enactment of the kiss between stage actors May Irwin and John Rice from the final scene of the musical The Widow Jones.

Although the kissing scene was very chaste, just a short peck on the lips, it caused widespread uproar. The Roman Catholic Church even called for censorship and moral reform because kissing in public could lead to prosecution. Several newspapers published disapproving editorials and police presence was requested in many places were the film was screened.

Today, The Kiss is preserved in the United States National Film Registry for its cultural significance.
