This company was named after the founder of vulcanized rubber, Charles Goodyear. This company also solely supplies NASCAR with tires, and is the most successful Formula One tire supplier in history.

If the name Michelin rings a bell, it’s probably because this particular tire manufacturer is one of the oldest and most widely known tire companies in the world. It’s also the biggest tire manufacturer worldwide, second only to Bridgestone. This company was founded in Clermont-Ferrand, France, by Édouard and André Michelin way back in 1889! They first helped out a young person whose cycle tire needed repair. After patching it up and testing it out, they realized that the patching did not work. However, Édouard Michelin was confident about the type of tire, and he worked on a new version of it that did not need patching or gluing to the rim of a bicycle. 

Since then, the company has seen unprecedented success.

Today, Pirelli is one of the world’s top 10 tire manufacturers, producing tires in several different continents, including the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, North America, and even the Post-Soviet States.

Pirelli is the inventor of the wide radial tire! The Italian car company Lancia requested that Pirelli create a tire that was durable enough to endure the Lancia Stratos’ power. The racing tires of the time were either too weak or narrow to withstand the pressures of various cars. Therefore, Pirelli came up with a solution!
