A triple double in the National Basketball Association (NBA) is when a player successfully records double figures in at least three of the five major statistical categories of a basketball game. These categories include points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots. However, the most common triple doubles in the NBA only refer to the first three of the five major categories.

Getting a triple double in an NBA game, where you are required to be at the peak of your physical strength, is extremely hard. It is always an unbelievable achievement for any basketball player to record a triple double and stamp their name among the legends of the game.

8. Lamar Odom

Lamar Odom’s triple double record occurred in a game between the Clippers and the Rockets in 1999. Throughout the game, Odom showed high basketball IQ by making extraordinary plays, and getting other players involved in the action.

Although the Clippers lost this game, Lamar Odom’s record made him the youngest triple double record holder in the NBA at the time. He finished the game with a staggering record of 10 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists!

Although Odom’s career did not end as well as it started, his record will shine as a testament to his immense knowledge of the game. Throughout his career, Lamar Odom played 961 games, averaging 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.

LeBron James currently sits at both the seventh and sixth position on the list of players who have recorded the youngest triple doubles in the NBA. His second triple double stat ever came in a game against the Golden State Warriors.

LeBron, at the young age of 20, had already assumed the role of a leader in the Cavs lineup. In only his second season in the NBA, LeBron managed to score this triple double with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists to lead his team to a 17-point victory.

The game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Portland Trail Blazers was an intense match, which ultimately went to the Cavs thanks to the masterful performance by the living legend of the game. LeBron scored 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists to win the game for the Cavs, and to set the record of being the youngest player ever to score a triple double at the time.

LeBron has played over in over 1,000 games in his career, and averages 27.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7 assists.

The Lakers’ star, Lonzo Ball, recorded the youngest triple double in the NBA in 2017, surpassing LeBron James at the age of 20.

Ball scored 19 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists in his record-setting game against the Bucks. Although his performance was amazing to say the least, his triple double came in a losing cause and, naturally, Ball wasn’t too happy about it after the game. Ball told the media afterwards that he did not care about the record, because his team lost the game.

Lonzo ball has 8 career triple doubles.

Ball’s triple double also included 3 steals and 3 blocks. Together, all five of these stats had not appeared in such a fashion in any game since 1983-84.

Luka became part of the league in 2018, and became an instant hit with his amazing performances. His first-ever triple double occurred in 2019 against the Milwaukee Bucks. However, since this triple double occurred in a losing game, Doncic was not in a celebrating mood after the game.

Doncic’s triple double included 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Markelle Fultz recorded the youngest ever triple double in the history of NBA in 2018. Interestingly, Markelle Fultz made this record during a year when he was riddled with injuries. He also became the first teen in the NBA to record the feat.

Fultz’s record-breaking performance against Milwaukee Bucks included 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. The Orlando Magic player is regarded as one of the most talented players in the NBA history. However, before he could realize his true potential, he sustained multiple injuries, which caused significant delays in his career and also in his progression to becoming one of the best players in the NBA history.

His record was broken three years later by none other than LaMelo Ball.

The Charlotte Hornets star was only 19 years and 140 days old when he scored 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists against the Atlanta Hawks. His outstanding performance led his team to win the match 113-105.

While not counted among the best players in the history of the NBA, LaMelo Ball has made quite an impact on the league.

Giddey set his record in a game between Oklahoma City Thunder and the Dallas Mavericks. Even though Thunder lost the game 95-86 against the Mavericks, Josh Giddey made history by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 14 assists in the game. His record also included 4 steals.

Craziest of all, Josh made further history by scoring with only 4 minutes left in the game.

Josh Giddey is 56 days younger than the last reigning champion in the list of youngest triple double scoring NBA players, LaMelo Ball. Both Ball and Giddey played for the Australia’s National Basketball League before joining the NBA.
