Maryum Ali has forged her own identity as the eldest child of Muhammad and Khalila Ali. Even as a young girl, her path in life was clear.
Lovingly referred to as “May May,” her father would ask her, “What is your purpose?” Maryum would respond with the same answer every time. “I want to help people.” She’s fulfilled those aspirations through the many titles she’s held over the years.
Beginning in her twenties, she became a stand-up comedian. It isn’t boxing by any stretch, but it takes a superhuman level of mental endurance and confidence that can only be compared to the gladiators that step onto the four-cornered canvas. She also released a rap album under Scottie Bros Records titled The Introduction.
Despite her early success, she wasn’t satisfied with the impact she was having.
She returned to school and graduated with a B.A. in Social Work. She logged over fifteen years of work in juvenile delinquency prevention and youth development as a case manager, program director, and regional manager for the Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction & Youth Development in Los Angeles.
