Rap is one of the most popular genres of music out there. There are thousands of rappers out there, but did you know that many of them come from India and contribute to the industry of Bollywood? 6. Baba Sehgal

Baba Sehgal is known for being one of India’s first and most well-known rappers. He is often credited with bringing rap to India, and establishing it as a genre in the country. Although he graduated with a degree in Agriculture and Technology, Sehgal was interested in the performing arts, and started his career in the early 90s with a self-released album.

Although he had already released two albums, his biggest and most successful album was Thanda Thanda Pani, released in 1992. Over the next decade, Sehgal released several more albums and worked on the soundtracks for smaller Bollywood movies. At the end of the 90s, he debuted as an actor in the film Miss 420.

5. Manj Musik

Manj Musik’s interest in music began at a young age. He began performing at his local gurudwara with the group RDB, which stands for Rhythm Doll Bass. This band consisted of Musik and his two brothers. Unfortunately, his older brother passed away, and Musik decided to leave the group shortly after.

In the years that followed, Musik began a solo career and started to release music as a solo artist. He began producing music in Bollywood and releasing rap singles of his own, and in 2014, he won the award for “Best Urban Single” at the Brit Asia TV Music Awards.

4. Bohemia

Bohemia is one of the youngest Bollywood rappers in the industry. Much like Baba Sehgal and Manj Musik, he is considered to be a pioneer in the industry, and is known for his significant contributions to the genre of desi hiphop. He was born in Karachi, but later moved to the United States with his family.

His interest in music began as a child but blossomed after moving to the US. When Bohemia was 21, he moved to Oakland and began working at a recording studio with his cousin. His cousin introduced him to a producer, and his love for hip-hop and rapping grew from there. In the years that followed, Bohemia released original music and recorded various tracks for Bollywood movies like Chandni Chowk To China and 8 x 10 Tasveer.

3. Hard Kaur

Hard Kaur was originally born in Uttar Pradesh, but later relocated to the UK with her mother and stepfather. She was later raised and educated there, and began her career as a rapper as well. She began to work in Bollywood in 2007 while simultaneously releasing original music. 

In the years that followed, Kaur continued to make original music and work in the film industry. Her controversial comments have seen her popularity decline, and she has received a ton of negative feedback from fans and the media alike.

2. Yo Yo Honey Singh

Yo Yo Honey Singh is an artist that many consider to be controversial. This is because many believe that his style of music isn’t rap or hip-hop, but a separate genre altogether. Still, regardless of public opinion, we’ve chosen to include him on this list because he is known to be one of the youngest and most talented rappers in Bollywood.

Singh debuted as an artist in Bollywood in 2011 in the movie Shakal Pe Mat Ja. He continued to release music over the next few years, and grew more and more popular with time. He also acted in a few films, though he is better known for being a rapper.

Badshah is another of the youngest rappers in the industry today in India. Although he is a well-respected rapper today, he was actually supposed to be an engineer! He was introduced to the genre of Punjabi hip-hop while he was in college, and later began releasing music.

Over the years, he has released original music and contributed songs to films like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Kapoor & Sons, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Badshah’s first stage name was Cool Equal, but he later changed it to Badshah.
